How often have you found yourself looking for directions and solutions for a problem and you desired to hear God?

You just felt you have gone too far without direction. You are in a dilemma and you just needed a guide?

God is always speaking, probably, we are the ones not listening, yes! Even if you are not born again. You can hear from God.

“And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?” (Acts 9: 4)

God wants to constantly speak to us every hour, minute and every second but is our hearts ready to hear God?

Don’t ever nurture in your heart that you are too sinful for God to speak to you. You are formed in God’s image, He is our loving father and we are his children.

Do you really want to hear God’s voice? Then pay attention to his Spirit.

Its dangerous to take steps or embark on the journey of life without hearing from God.

Your willingness to hear God shows how dependent you are to his Spirit.

Even though God speaks, we must be choose to hear him. What then are the ways God speaks?

Below are ways to hear from God though it’s not completely exhaustive.

1.Develop friendship with God.

Originally, before Adam sinned, he heard God everyday and walked with him through friendship with God.

Noah and Abraham also heard God through friendship with him. The way you hear God is in the context of a friendship with Him.

Are you born again? Have you let Jesus into your heart?

“And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd”. (John 10:16.)

God intends for you to figure out His will freely and intelligently as you engage in regular conversations with Him.

God’s will is to be personally present with you and speaking with you moment by moment as you go through life.

Then you’ll grow to understand Him more and become more like His Son, Jesus. If you want to hear God. You have to give Jesus your heart.

2. Study the word

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”  (Psalm 119:105)

The Word of God is a living, creative force – Jesus Himself – and He is actively at work when you read God’s written word – the Bible – prayerfully.

When you read the Bible, ask Jesus to make the Bible’s words come alive for you and become conduits through which He sends His thoughts, faith, and love into your soul.

Then focus on what He sends you and orient yourself toward it so it will begin to transform your life.

3. Listen to The inward witness

The inward witness is a guide for your spirit, it prompts you whether to stay or go ahead. You get a sense of strength and approval.

These are not the feelings on your mind or soul. Sometimes you just sense that something is wrong and you feel sceptical to take a step.

Probably, you started a project but after a while you sense there is no alignment somewhere.

So God for sees a problem and communicates that to your spirit.

The problem with most Christians is that when people are treading the wrong path, they don’t want to hear God speak.

4. Follow The inward voice.

Your spirit has a voice, its called the conscience. It’s fixed on an individual during birth.

What pricks your heart when you are doing wrong, its the inward voice different from the inward witness.

You can hear God through your conscience.  But our conscience can be inactive if we constantly ignore the checks. (1 Tim 4:1-2)

5.The voice of the Holy Spirit.

That’s that still small voice not feelings. It’s not the voice of your spirit but the Spirit of God speaking to you expressly.

The voice not voices His voice is in alignment with his word (1 John 5:7) Whatever the Holy Spirit says is in his word, whatever the word says, the Holy Spirit says. They go together.

When what you have heard is not backed up by Gods word, then it’s not right. Most of us sometimes go too far before we get God’s mind on a matter.

If you have built your spiritual antenna, To hear God becomes clearer. There is a difference between your spirit speaking and the Holy Spirit voice (Acts 10:19)

Through the depth of your intimacy with God, you will be able to differentiate the two.

My spirit speaks based on what I have fed it with but there are times when God speaks. 1 Sam 3:2-4.

The Holy Spirit voice has more authority than the voice of your spirit.

6. Hear God through visions, trance and dreams.

God speaks through visions, trances and dreams.Vision and trance is seeing something supernaturally.

They suspends your physical senses and their activities. You see and feel things from the Spiritual realm.

Sometimes you feel like your body is paralysed during vision. God showed a vision to cornelius, the centurion in Acts 10:28.

Also,God given dreams is a means to hear God. God spoke to Joseph in a dream to flee Egypt with mary and the baby Jesus from Herod evil screen. Mat. 2:13.

Every time God spoke to joseph, it was in a dream. The way God speaks to us differ but when the depth of our intimacy with the Holy Spirit deepens, it becomes spontaneous, and easy to hear him.

If you feel you are not hearing God well enough, don’t be worried, your goals should be to improve your friendship and intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

The more closer you are to the Holy Spirit, the more you hear from God expressly.

While it’s important to hear from God, that shouldn’t be your ultimate goal.

Instead, make your main goal to become a spiritually mature person in a close relationship with God.

That’s the only way you’ll clearly and correctly hear what God has to say to you.

You are blessed. Shalom!
